Spokane developers plan apartment complex in Garland District for economic growth

    2024-03-12

SPOKANE, Wash. — Small businesses in the Garland District continue to bounce back and recover from the pandemic.

Local developers want to attract more customers with a plan to build a four-unit apartment complex behind the Garland theater, which reopened earlier this month.

It was good news for many small businesses in the district. Developers want to build an apartment complex in the parking lot as part of an effort to boost the local economy.

Cruz Nicacio, owner of Garland Treasure Trove, says building an apartment complex on Monroe and Walton Street will bring more foot traffic in the area.

"It just adds more to our flow of businesses," Nicacio said. "Again, a lot of people walk on the garland. It's just nice to see that activity happening here."

The apartment complex will be a four-story building with 44 units, with the goal of revitalizing the Garland District.

"The brick on the garland theater is going to be the same brick we utilize there," Ryan Berg, a developer, said. "Right now, with the Garland District, there're a lot of businesses that all survived COVID and they are coming right out of COVID still. We just want to help revitalize any way we can to get more pedestrians down there."

"I get to meet and greet new folks," Nicacio said. "Hopefully, they will like our district and they will support us."

The construction will begin in the summer. The developer says it will be finished by next spring.

just like the apartments next to the Safeway on market Street.. stealing and doing so much damage that they may have to close soon. at least the population of trouble makers will be consolidated to make it easier for the pd and scso to find them.
