SPOKANE, Wash. - The Salvation Army is holding its 15th annual Backpacks for Kids distribution day today, offering essential school supplies to help kids succeed in school.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., volunteers will be on hand to distribute 4,000 backpacks filled with new school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will take place at The Salvation Army's Indiana Avenue location.

Families are instructed to enter through the facility on Nora Avenue.

Parents and guardians are required to bring a photo ID and proof of every child in the household, such as a birth certificate, medical card, or Social Security card.

In addition to the backpack giveaway, the event will feature a resource fair offering healthcare and dental information, low-income assistance, food, beverages, and treats from Nomnom's Froozie truck.

Local mascots, including Otto, Doris, and Ribby from the Spokane Indians; Boomer from the Spokane Chiefs; and Swoop from Eastern Washington University, will also be in attendance from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for added fun.
