Spokane community rallies to support dog with cancer in her final days

SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane dog owner is asking for community support to make her furry friend's last moments as special as possible.

"I have really fallen in love with her," Vanessa Stranahan said. "She has been my shadow."

Stranahan's pup, Daisy, went viral on Thursday after a post asking for community support.

The post asked if a local business would be willing to offer Daisy a tasty dinner.

Joy McCarley, the manager at the Backyard Public House responded within the hour.

"The fact that they are still sticking with the dog and making sure that its last day is the best it can be, I cried when I read the post," McCarley said. "The first thing I thought to do was to make sure she could come here."

Daisy enjoyed her last puppy patty on the patio at The Backyard Public House Thursday night. McCarley said she was inspired by her relationship with her own dog to do this act of kindness.

The Backyard Public House said it is looking into ways to continue honoring Daisy's legacy.

"They are so special and innocent and you have to fight for them because they can't fight for themselves," McCarley said.

When describing Daisy, Stranahan had two words: girl boss.

"I am sad but part of me is glad she will be able to reunite with her original owner," Stranahan said.
