Man seen driving erratically in Spokane Valley arrested for DUI

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A man was arrested for driving under the influence and crashing into another car in Spokane Valley on Sunday night, according to Spokane Valley Police Department.

Around 8:30 p.m. on August 18, deputies responded to a reported crash near Wellesley Avenue and Harvard Road.

When they arrived at the scene, they learned a black Jeep, driven by 27-year-old Nikolas A. Eaton, had crashed into the driver's side of a silver Kia.

The driver of the Kia told deputies she was going westbound on Wellesley with two passengers in her car when she saw the black Jeep driving toward her in the westbound lane.

She swerved to avoid a head-on crash, and Eaton crashed the Jeep into the side of her car.

Deputies learned from a witness at the scene, that Eaton had been seen before the crash, swerving and crossing the centerline multiple times while driving down Wellesley Avenue.

The witness said he saw the crash and that it looked like Eaton was accelerating and trying to leave the scene, but was unable to because of the damage to the Jeep.

Deputies at the scene said Eaton appeared angry, slow to respond to questions, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

Eaton refused to exit the Jeep, but was eventually removed by SVPD and an officer from Liberty Lake.

He was booked into Spokane County Jail for DUI.

SVPD said Eaton has a previous DUI conviction from 2021.
