Idaho State Board of Education approves changes to high school graduation requirements

    2024-08-21

The Idaho State Board of Education approved changes for high school graduation requirements.

According to the board, the changes would be put in place over a three-year span if approved by the state legislature.

The proposed changes would require students to earn a credit in Digital Literacy and complete a Future Readiness Project, an amended version of the senior project requirement currently in place. The Future Readiness Project will require students to demonstrate college and career competencies through work-based, service-based, or research-based projects exploring options after high school.

Other changes include a requirement for localized pathways that find core and elective credits, assessments, and other opportunities that align closely with a student's post-graduation goals.

The Board said the last update of the statewide graduation requirements happened over ten years ago.

The new amendments are expected to be submitted to the legislature early next year.
