CHENEY, Wash. -- The Cheney Education Association and Cheney School District announced they have reached a tentative contract agreement.

The announcement came Friday night, four days before the first day of school on August 27.

It states both parties have reached an agreement that "reflects our shared commitment to the success and well-being of our students, staff, and the entire school community."

Earlier this week, the CEA announced its plan to strike on the first day of school if an agreement wasn't reached.

In the joint announcement, both parties said they are excited to move forward together and welcome students back to the classrooms in the 2024-25 school year.

    Staff, Families, and Community Members,

The Cheney Education Association (CEA) and the Cheney School District are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement that reflects our shared commitment to the success and well-being of our students, staff, and the entire school community.

Both teams have worked tirelessly to reach a tentative agreement that honors the needs of the parties involved, ensuring that we are well-prepared to continue providing a high-quality education in a safe and caring environment.

As we approach the start of the new school year, we are excited to move forward together. Our collective focus remains on creating a positive, supportive atmosphere in which all students can learn at high levels and graduate with options for post-secondary education, careers, and civic engagement.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this process. We look forward to welcoming students back to our school buildings and working together to achieve a successful year ahead.
