Parents of late WSU quarterback cherish magical post-game moment

WASHINGTON — Washington State visits Boise State Saturday night, marking their first meeting since 2017 when Tyler Hilinski led an epic comeback in Pullman.

Hilinski came in for the injured Luke Falk with the Cougars trailing the Broncos 31-10 in the fourth quarter, but Hilinski wouldn't let the Cougars lose.

He threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns as WSU rallied for a 47-44 win in triple overtime.

4 News Now anchor Derek Deis spoke with the parents of the late WSU quarterback Thursday.

Kym Hilinski told Deis that while seeing her son hoisted on fans' shoulders was unforgettable, it was a moment after the game that she cherishes most.

"We walked together after the press conference and talked about the game. We just put our arms around each other, and he asked me, 'Mom, did that just happen?' I said, 'You know, it did, Tyler. That's such a magical moment. Not everybody gets to experience something like that.'"

Mark and Kym Hilinski continue to honor Tyler's legacy through their foundation, Hilinski's Hope.

4 News Now will have more to this story next week.
