North Spokane neighbors seek to ban large truck traffic on their street

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Residence of a North Spokane neighborhood are fed up with noisy trucks driving down their street.

People living along Nebraska Avenue said their peace and quiet has been disturbed for years by large delivery trucks driving through their neighborhood.

"The trucks still vibrate. You can feel the house shake. You can hear them several blocks away. You can hear the engines. You can hear the refrigeration units," said Maggie Sullivan who lives on Nebraska.

Sullivan brough the issue to Spokane City Council.

The proposed ordinance would ban non-local truck traffic from West Nebraska Avenue between North Ash and Division.

Sullivan said many of the trucks are delivering supplies to businesses on Maple Street or food to Ridgeview Elementary School.

She said she reached out to the truck companies asking them to avoid the area, but the traffic has not stopped.

"We just want them off the streets. They can use Rowan. Rowan is an arterial. It's as direct as anything going east and west," said Sullivan.

City Council will vote on the proposed ordinance on October 7.
