Graffiti on Post Street Bridge promotes Spokane political campaign

SPOKANE, Wash - Work crews from the City of Spokane spent part of Monday morning washing off graffiti on the newly renovated Post Street Bridge.

The writings promoted JoinTheMovementSpokane.com. That address redirects to another website, StoptheViolenceSpokane.com, a website that's paid for by Jim Wilson.

Wilson is running for state legislature in the 3rd District against Marcus Riccelli.

Join The Movement Spokane encourages people to vote against Riccelli, Natasha Hill and Bob Ferguson.

When 4 News Now asked Wilson about the graffiti this morning, he said it's chalk and it would wash off.

He said he didn't put it there, but said volunteers have joined the movement and are supporting his cause.

A city spokesperson tells 4 News Now it appears to be water-soluble spray paint and is coming off with water and soap.

Spokane city code says it's illegal to deface any private or public property by "etching, painting, spray painting, covering, gouging, drawing upon or otherwise placing a mark" on the property without the owner's permission.

However, the code goes on to say, "It is not an offense under this section for a person to engage in expressive conduct on the public right of way using non-permanent, non-toxic means, such as chalk or water-soluble paints, in a manner which does not obstruct or interfere with the public right of way."

All that money to fix the bridge, and only one lane. So stupid.
