“We’re aiming for the kind of things you learn together and can go out and do together,” Yellen said. “We have sort of an outdoors theme too. We want to bring families back to the way they used to be outside, camping, doing things together.”

James Anderson, a partner of Dad’s Donuts appeared on Loving Living Local and gave Host, Nova, a taste of what customers can expect from the shop’s unique creations. “They created these incredible pastries, so this is really a croissant and a donut mixed together, I think we figured 109 layers now,” said Anderson.

When explaining why they make the donuts this special way, Amy Fairbanks, Head Pastry Chef said, it’s because they tested what dough and recipes work best for Colorado.

“So these donuts actually take three to four days to get to this point; you make a dough, you let it rest overnight, then you layer in the butter and let it rest again,” Fairbanks said. “So these aren’t just something we can whip up the first morning, they are definitely a labor of love.”

Yellen echoed what Fairbanks said and added, “There’s nothing like this in the city. We’ve spent months getting it exactly right—this is the marriage between a croissant and a donut. They really are special, and people love them.”
