Tim Walz to visit Colorado for Harris campaign event

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will be in Denver on Wednesday.

Walz’s visit is part of his first solo campaign event. According to the Harris-Walz campaign , he will deliver remarks at a campaign reception in Denver. The campaign called this his “first fundraising blitz for the Harris-Walz campaign.”

The week-long tour will begin in Los Angeles on Tuesday and conclude in New York. Walz will stop in Colorado, Boston and Rhode Island as well.

Less than a week ago on Aug. 6, Harris announced Walz would be her running mate in her bid to beat former President Donald Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance of Ohio in the November election.

A source familiar with Harris’s decision said Walz appealed to her as an effective messenger who can help win midwestern states, the same states that Vance is vying to win.

Walz grew up in West Point, Nebraska and was a social studies teacher , football coach and union member at Mankato West High School in Minnesota before he got into politics.

Walz served 24 years in the Army National Guard, rising to command sergeant major, one of the highest enlisted ranks in the military.

In 2018 he ran for governor of Minnesota and won by more than 11 points.
