Glenwood Springs residents head to Chicago ahead of Democratic convention

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Two Glenwood Springs residents are headed to Chicago to represent the Centennial State in this year’s Democratic National Convention.

One of the two, Nick Isenberg, who is fully blind and partially deaf, will serve as one of the 87 delegates for Colorado and will represent the state’s third district. Isenberg has been a journalist for 55 years.

He has also been producing a monthly show called The Tactile Traveler for five years. According to the show’s description, its goal “is to empower blind and low-vision people to explore the world.”

Isenberg will be joined by Pat Conarro, who will serve as his sighted guide. Conarro is the founder, CEO and CTO of ANEW Energy, which is a Glenwood Springs-based renewable energy company.

The two boarded the Amtrak California Zephyr train in Glenwood Springs, and FOX31 spoke to the two while the train was stopped at Denver’s Union Station on its journey to Chicago.

Isenberg said, on one episode of his show The Tactile Traveler, he explained exactly how someone could become a delegate at both the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention.

“And then I did everything I said in the story,” he said. “And I’m a delegate!”

He said he previously served as an alternate delegate during the 2008 Democratic National Convention, which was held in Denver, but that this will be his first time as a delegate.

Isenberg said the delegation includes a wide variety of people from different races, ethnicities and walks of life.

“Our delegation looks like America,” Isenberg said.
