Autumn on hold? Southern Colorado could see an extended summer

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — With September approaching, some might be wondering when do we see more fall-like weather. New data shows that it might be longer than you think.

On average, we dip into the 70s by September 15th and get to the 60s by mid-October. However, data from the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) shows that this year we might get to these temperatures later than normal.

The latest outlook from the CPC for September through November shows that we could see above temperatures for the next three months and below-average moisture for the same time period. It is important to note that this isn’t a forecast so much as charts showing the probability and how likely it would be to see warmer than normal temperatures and less moisture. But in any case, if this pans out this could mean a delay in fall-like weather.

Some of the effects of this kind of forecast are a delay in temperatures getting cooler in the season and fall leaves changing color a week or two later than normal. Typically we see the leaves start changing in late September and early October.
