    Student hit by car at Cañon City High School “recovering well”

    (CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — A student who was hit by a car in the parking lot of Cañon City High School on Thursday, Aug. 22 is “recovering well,” according to a Facebook post by the school district.

    On Friday, Aug. 23 just after 8:15 a.m., Cañon City Schools Fremont RE-1 wrote in part , “We are relieved to share that the student involved in [Thursday’s] parking lot accident is recovering well. Our hearts and thoughts are with everyone impacted by this incident.”

    According to the Cañon City Police Department, the driver involved in the crash was also a minor and the student who was hit was treated at St. Thomas More Hospital in Cañon City before they were taken to a hospital in Colorado Springs.

    On Friday morning, the school district also reminded the community that counseling and support services are available for any students or staff who may need them.

    “Please don’t hesitate to reach out to school district counselors if you or someone you know could benefit from these resources,” wrote the school district. “We are here to support you during this time.”

    On Thursday, the school district notified the community on Facebook of the crash and wrote that it was thankful to all of the first responders. “We are grateful for the quick response from the Cañon City police, fire, and ambulance services, who were on the scene immediately to assist.”

    The district also wrote, “Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties involved. The safety and well-being of students is our top priority. We are working closely with local authorities and will share updates as they become available.”
