    USOPM planning celebrations for Paralympic Games

    (COLORADO SPRINGS) — The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum (USOPM) is inviting the public to join the museum in the excitement of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 8.

    USOPM said the museum will have live coverage of the Games on its 40-foot LED wall, and daily artifact demonstrations of the history of the Paralympic Games as part of its Paris Summer Fest Celebration .

    “The Paralympic Games are a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the human spirit,” said Marisa Wigglesworth, CEO of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum. “We’re thrilled to offer visitors a communal experience in viewing these incredible competitions with like-minded fans, together celebrating the legacy and stories of the athletes who inspire us all.”

    USOPM has a schedule of events starting on Wednesday and running through the Paralympic Games:

    • Opening Ceremony : Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. USOPM will host a watch party of the opening ceremony along with Artifact demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Paralympic Day Celebration Presented by Xfinity and UCHealth : Saturday, Aug. 31 an all-day celebration of the excitement of the Games and impact of the Paralympic movement. Meet Paralympians and participate in wheelchair basketball. Pikes Peak Library District will have a bookmobile at the museum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. hosting a book reading and Paralympic-themed crafts.
    • Live Paralympic-Themed Painting : Friday, Sept. 6 all-day watch Olympic City USA Task Force Co-Chair Bernard Sandoval as he creates a new Paralympic-themed painting throughout the day.
    • Touch-A-Truck with the Colorado Springs Fire Department : Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. kids will have the chance to explore a real fire engine and meet the firefighters who protect the community.
    • Closing Ceremony : Sunday, Sept. 8 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. the Paris Paralympic Games conclude with a Closing Ceremony watch party in the atrium, giving visitors one last chance to celebrate the Games together. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
