(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — On Friday, Aug. 30, the City of Manitou Springs gave updates on the ongoing Fire Mitigation and Corridor Clearing Project, a collaboration with Team Rubicon volunteers and the Parks and Recreation Department. The project focuses on removing brush, vegetation, and deadwood to enhance wildfire mitigation and ensure access to a sewer line.

From Aug. 22-26, efforts on Bluff Avenue significantly advanced wildfire risk reduction and the area is better prepared for any potential threats. The city also reported that fire mitigation in Deer Valley Nature Park, which ran from Aug. 23-26, 2024, is 75% complete, significantly reducing the park’s fuel load and aiding future maintenance.

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department will remove the remaining brush from Bluff Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024. The brush in Deer Valley Nature Park will be cleared by the end of September.

The City of Manitou Springs extends its deepest gratitude to Team Rubicon and the Parks and Recreation Department for their hard work and dedication to these projects, which have been instrumental in making the community safer and more resilient against wildfires.
