(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Nightly full closures of South Academy Boulevard are scheduled to begin Tuesday evening, Sept. 3, and recur every night through Saturday, Sept. 7.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), east and westbound lanes of South Academy Boulevard will close nightly under I-25 and detour using the on- and off-ramps as part of the bridge reconstruction project.

    • Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Thursday, Sept. 5, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

    • Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Traffic heading north and southbound on I-25 will take the off-ramps and then re-enter I-25 via the on-ramp to avoid the bridge.

CDOT warned there will also be various right lane closures on I-25 between S. Academy and Santa Fe Avenue during the nighttime hours Tuesday through Friday evenings. The speed limit in this area has been reduced to 60 mph, and CDOT said traffic delays of 10-15 minutes are expected. Fines will be doubled through the construction zone.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution while traveling in the area.
