(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — A cold front is set to move south over the area starting in the middle of the day Wednesday and it promises some noticeable changes into Thursday.

Ahead of the front, temperatures will warm up fast during the morning so by the middle of the day we’re in the 80s and 90s again east of the mountains. Behind the front, a solid 10-15 degree drop is expected for Thursday.

Wind will pick up out of the north over northeastern Colorado in the morning and spread south over southern Colorado through the afternoon as the front arrives.

Thunderstorms will develop late Wednesday morning over the mountains to the northwest of the Pikes Peak Region and spread into Teller and El Paso Counties through the middle part of the afternoon. These storms may produce some gusty wind that might be strong enough to prompt a severe thunderstorm warning if the gusts near 60mph.

Storms will gradually spread southeast through Wednesday evening, but likely won’t be as strong as earlier in the day. A few showers may last into early Thursday and by the afternoon may be accompanied by a rumble of thunder or two.

The combination of clouds, showers, and cooler air may have you thinking of fall!
