    UPDATE: TUESDAY 9/3/2024 9:26 a.m.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said police were called just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3 about a motorcycle and truck crash at East Platte Avenue at Don Juan Street just west of Chelton Road.

CSPD’s initial information is that the motorcycle was traveling west on E. Platte Ave. and the pickup truck was traveling east and trying to turn onto Don Juan when the two collided.

The motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries at the hospital and has been declared dead. The driver of the truck stayed on the scene and is cooperating with CSPD. CSPD said the rider of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet and at this time alcohol is not considered a factor. CSPD is still investigating and has not determined if speed was a factor in the crash.

CSPD said westbound E. Platte Ave. would be closed for several hours just before Don Juan St. while police investigate the crash.
