(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — El Paso County launched a brand-new online Affordable Housing Directory on Tuesday, Sept. 3, to help families and individuals find options that match their needs.

The online directory is an interactive tool that features a user-friendly map and specialized filters that can help those who need it the most directly. The website lets individuals find options easily.

“I was inspired to create this map after noticing numerous vacancy signs at a subsidized apartment complex in a beautiful, often-overlooked area of town,” said Randi Davis, Community Development Analyst. “With so many people in our community searching for housing, it’s crucial to share the resources we already have available.”

The website shows multiple housing options throughout the county including in cities like Colorado Springs, Fountain, and Monument. The website is now live and can be accessed through the link above or elpasoco.com

The term "affordable" is a misnomer. Apartments that start at $1000 a month for a one bedroom unit is hardly affordable. In order to qualify for that unit, you must make $2000 a month. Security deposits are generally equal to the monthly cost of the apartment. This, you must come up with $2000 to move in. You are also required to provide the leasing company with a packet of information about your credit and a rental history. These packets cost any where up to $50 and you must pay an application fee. All told, that adds up to about $2100. What part of that is affordable?
