    UPDATE: FRIDAY 9/6/2024 1:45 p.m.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said a deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and fired at least one round while attempting to make contact with a stolen vehicle in the morning hours of Friday, Sept. 6.

EPSO said at around 9 a.m. on Friday a deputy found a stolen vehicle near Brant Road and Expedition Drive east of Main Street in Security-Widefield in unincorporated El Paso County, but the driver left the area.

Five minutes later the same deputy found the stolen vehicle in the Windmill Mesa Park area and attempted to make contact. As the vehicle sped away, it hit the deputy and the deputy fired at least one round. It is unknown if the driver of the stolen vehicle was hit in the shooting.

EPSO said the suspect left the area and has not been found since, EPSO asked the public for help in finding the suspect vehicle which is described as a blue 2015 Mazda CX5 with no license plates. If you see the vehicle EPSO cautions the public to not approach the vehicle and call 911. The suspected driver of the vehicle has not been identified by EPSO, but it does not believe there is a threat to the public.
