(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a domestic disturbance was the cause of a shelter-in-place that was issued at an apartment complex in the morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 5.

According to CSPD, on Thursday, at around 7:45 a.m. officers were called to the 4100 block of Sanders View near East Fountain and South Powers Boulevards about a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman.

When police arrived, they determined that during the original disturbance, the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Justin Lynch, allegedly felony menaced a person at the apartment complex with a gun.

CSPD said Lynch then retreated into his apartment while the woman “half remained outside with arriving officers.” Police said, inside the apartment was also a young child.

A shelter-in-place was ordered for those in the immediate area, and police said both a containment was established and additional resources were called in to help.

Lynch ultimately exited the apartment with the child and was taken into custody without further incident.
