(VICTOR, Colo.) — On Saturday, Sept. 7 a race set in the heart of historic Cripple Creek & Victor Mining District took place that celebrated the history of the area with a 7.3-mile Victor Pack Burro Race.

“It really brings a connection between the humans, the burros, and the mining history. And having access and running on real mines is really where it’s at,” said Brad Wann, Co-owner of Redonkulous Ranch and Emcee of the event.

The race covers dirt roads, paved roads and has a little bit of everything said Wann.

“Burro Racing was conceived to keep small communities alive. And that’s why we show up and line up on the starting line to take off,” said Wann.

After the start of the race, the Poop Pick up Contest, where the team that picks up the most poop wins.

“When you’re going to do the poop races, then get a shovel, not a rake. We learned that lesson today. So yeah,” said Connor and Landon Furmin, contestants for the Poop Race.

There are weekly running groups where people can train with different donkeys and the sport welcomes anyone who has done some training and built a relationship with a donkey.
