Boy receives award from EPSO for life saving actions

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A 6-year-old was recognized by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for his life-saving actions back in May.

The Sheriff’s Office said Josiah Maina displayed remarkable bravery when his grandmother experienced a sudden medical emergency. He called 911 to get help and found his home address for the dispatcher. Thanks to Josiah, emergency responders were able to arrive quickly and provide the care his grandma needed.

On Tuesday, he was honored by the El Paso County Sheriff with the 911 Hero Award for his actions, which his mom praised as being beyond his years.

“Things happen in our lives, and sometimes you find yourself in a situation that the only person who is next to you is a child, or a kid,” said Adijah Langat, Josiah’s mom. “And they barely know how to call for help when there’s an emergency.”

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal shook Josiah’s hand at the event on Tuesday, before Roybal recounted the enormous efforts Josiah went through to help his loved one and awarded the youngster with his momentous award.
