(COLORADO SPRINGS) — An officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) suffered minor injuries after a woman clawed the officer’s arm with her fingernails while being arrested.

According to CSPD, officers responded to a disturbance shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 to the 1000 block of Mazatlan Circle, just south of Valley Hi golf course. CSPD said officers were checking the area, they found a suspicious car and pulled it over for a traffic violation.

CSPD said the passenger in the car provided the identity of a sibling, and when officers ran the sibling’s name, they discovered the person was wanted on a warrant. When officers told the woman she was under arrest, she struggled with officers and intentionally clawed one of the officers’ arms with her fingernails.

The woman, identified as 36-year-old Nakiya Edwards, was arrested on charges of Second Degree Assault, Criminal Impersonation, and Obstruction of a Peace Officer. She was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Why not give her own name? Or doesn't say she is being held on her own warrant.
