(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said a man who was found unresponsive in his cell has passed away at the hospital.

On Wednesday, Sept. 11 at around 8:15 p.m. during a routine welfare check at the El Paso County Jail, deputies found a man unresponsive in his cell. EPSO said evidence found suggested the man attempted to take his own life.

Deputies and medical staff began lifesaving measures until first responders from American Medical Response and the Colorado Springs Fire Department arrived at around 8:32 p.m., and at 9:22 p.m. the man was taken to the hospital.

EPSO said on Sunday, Sept. 15 despite efforts and the highest level of care by medical personnel at the hospital, the man passed away at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Our Office wishes to express our deepest condolences to this individual’s family,” writes EPSO.

Sheriff Joseph Roybal has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Isnt this the second or third time this year? May need to change some operating procedures and have 24/7 eyes on prisoners... Or install cameras in every cell and have how ever many people needed to watch things if thats not already being done.

So it took over an hour to get this man to a hospital. What would they do in a REAL emergency. I guess one person dying isn’t that urgent.
