(CUSTER COUNTY, Colo.) — On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook to warn the community of two scams in Custer County.

The first scam involves someone calling members from an online church directory. Custer County said the scammer tells individuals the church pastor (right last name wrong title) wants them to buy gift cards to help members of the church with cancer. CCSO clarified via Facebook this call is a scam.

Another scam in Custer County involves fraudulent calls from people who claim to be a part of the Sheriff’s Office. CCSO said they have received several reports of fraudulent calls from a “Deputy Reeve” of the Custer County Sheriff’s Office. The caller advises of an urgent legal matter that must be addressed.

“These calls are NOT from a CCSO deputy,” said CCSO. “If you believe you are being contacted by CCSO, tell the caller you will call them back through the Sheriff’s Office dispatch.”

Individuals can reach the dispatch number at 719-783-2270.
