Operation to address car registration along Front Range

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — Multiple agencies along the Front Range are teaming up to enforce vehicle registrations and encourage drivers to register their cars and trailers.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), its agency will team up with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), Denver Police, Aurora Police, Colorado State Patrol, Monument Police, Fountain Police, and Pueblo Police to address vehicle registration violations along the Front Range.

The enforcement surge is happening from Sunday, Sept. 22 to Saturday, Sept. 28.

“While moving violations such as speeding, distracted and reckless driving, and DUI/DUID will continue to be the enforcement priorities, CSPD, and other front range agencies understand the frustration and community impacts expired & unregistered vehicles bring to all of our communities,” wrote CSPD.

“The citizens of El Paso County have voiced their concerns and frustration over the increase in vehicles with expired registration or no road registration at all,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “As a response, my Office has committed to a surge in enforcement of this issue alongside our neighboring law enforcement agencies and a continued intentional enforcement of these violations. While my deputies continue to prioritize enforcement of violations such as speeding, distracted driving, reckless behavior, and impaired driving, we will increase our focus on identifying vehicles with expired registrations during this planned operation.”

EPSO encourages the community of drivers and car owners to register their vehicles, as the process has been made simple by the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Click here to learn about registering a new vehicle or renewing a previous registration.

“There are 15 locations across the Pikes Peak region, including several easy-to-use kiosks,” said El Paso County Clerk Steve Schleiker. “The funds collected for vehicle registrations pay for our roads and bridges here in El Paso County, in our municipalities, and across Colorado.”
