(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) said its gunshot detection system called ShotSpotter along with the Real Time Crime Center was able to arrest and convict a suspect in a shooting.

According to PPD, on July 28, at around 7:45 a.m., police were alerted by ShotSpotter to shots fired near the Dollar General at 818 East 4th Street. The suspect was not identified initially, but later in the day, the suspect identified as Matthew Arnette returned to the store and was recognized by an employee who called the police.

PPD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) found Arnette on camera as he was leaving the scene. While monitoring him on live video RTCC was able to provide Arnette’s location to officers who quickly arrested him.

Police said at the time of Arnette’s arrest he had a loaded and chambered .380 handgun. Police also found two spent shell casings were found at the scene.

On Friday, Sept. 20 Arnette pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight months in jail for Prohibited Use of a Weapon.

“The use of the ShotSpotter technology and the swift work of the Real Time Crime Center technicians helped ensure officers on the ground were able to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect as well as provided strong evidence to assist in the investigation of the incident,” stated Real Time Crime Center Sergeant Jeremy Mathews.
