(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) Fire Marshal Brett Lacey has ordered burn restrictions to go into effect on Friday, Oct. 11, preventing some activities in the Colorado Springs area.

CSFD said the burn restriction order was given due to current and forecasted weather, dry fuel, and ongoing grass fire occurrence in undeveloped areas of Colorado Springs. The burn restrictions will begin on Friday at 12 p.m. and will remain in effect until the order is rescinded.

Burn restrictions prohibit the following activities:

    • Any type of fire, whether open or contained, on any undeveloped wildland areas, brush areas, or grassy areas
    • Recreation fires
    • Bonfires
    • Open or prescribed burns
    • Outdoor smoking in all city parks and open spaces
    • Small internal combustion engines without a properly installed, maintained, and functioning spark arrestor
    • Recreation fireworks/devices requiring ignition which are prohibited at all times
    • Trash/rubbish burning is prohibited at all times.

A list of allowed activities including those that require a permit can be found on CSFD’s COS Wildfire Ready website linked above. Any suspected non-emergency violations of the order can be reported by calling (719) 444-7000.
