(VICTOR, Colo.) — A building that once housed a former casino and brothel in Victor, Colorado during the Wild West and was rebuilt after a devastating fire is now home to the Black Monarch, which is rumored to be a paranormal hotel.

“At the height of the Gold Rush, Victor was a booming town and this casino, brothel, and saloon was the place to be,” according to the hotel’s website . “But after a barkeep was killed in a gunfight, the people who worked there began to see unexplained things.”

Then, in 1899 a devasting fire that tore through the center of town and raged on for five hours destroyed the building. It was eventually rebuilt but the town reported multiple hauntings.

Adam Zimmerli, Owner and Curator of the Black Monarch said the hotel includes seven guest rooms, a coffee shop, and a ballroom available for event rental.

“When I first came to see the building, it hadn’t been occupied in decades and I was actually warned by the person from the bank that was showing me the building, that the building was haunted,” he said.

The boutique hotel has since undergone two recent renovations; one in 2019 and the second, in 2020.

“It’s been six years now and we have relatively continual paranormal activity here,” he said. “If you are here in the building by yourself, you will hear people walking around.”

Zimmerli said the haunting experiences go beyond the hotel’s walls.

“There is something going on in the building and throughout the entire town,” Zimmerli explained. “It is Colorado’s best-preserved ghost town.”

While at the hotel, guests are encouraged to visit the town’s antique stores and local restaurants that make Victor unique. To learn more about the Black Monarch or to book your stay, click the link above.

Too bad it looks so weird, maybe if it looked habitable there would be more business.
