(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) announced on Thursday, Oct. 17 all recreational shooting is banned at Pike National Forest due to high fire danger.

Recreational shooting is banned by an Emergency Forest Order. According to USFS, the Turkey Tracks area alone has had seven fires caused by recreational shooting. The area is also currently under Stage 1 fire restrictions.

Violation of the order can result in a fine and may require a court appearance.

USFS said to contact non emergency police dispatch or the Colorado State Patrol to report illegal recreational shooting on the Pikes Peak, South Platte and South Park ranger districts.
