(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Watch out! Not every dog out there is friendly.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) issued a scam alert on their Facebook page to alert the community of a pet-related scam.

HSPPR said that they have been hearing about a scam targeting people who are missing their pets. A person will call, saying they are representing HSPPR and the shelter, and request funds over the phone. HSPPR would like people to know that this is a scam, and they do not request payment over the phone before returning a pet.

If you receive a suspicious phone call, HSPRR said, please visit their Admissions office and talk to a staff member in person. Do not give out any personal or financial information.
