PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The National Constitution Center in Old City is trying to make a special time of Memorial Day weekend with free admission for all visitors on Sunday and Monday.

“We are open on Monday 10-5,” says Mike Dees with the Center. “We are free, courtesy of Travelers Insurance. They sponsored our whole weekend here.”

Dees says there are a number of things on offer for guests to honor Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country

“We have special crafts happening throughout the day. We also have special lobby shows that are happening, on the history of Memorial Day and the importance of monuments,” he said.

“Through our exhibits, we have a lot of stuff — famous military battles, famous soldiers — but also everybody who helped create the country that we have today.”

He says the Center has seen about 1,500 people per day this weekend — “but it’s a large museum, so it never feels crowded.”

Dees says those who cannot make it out this weekend will have other similar opportunities this summer: “We have Juneteenth , which is going to be another free day coming up, as well as some free days around the Fourth of July .”
