PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three teens have been arrested in connection with the attacks of two Temple University students Monday night.

Officials say the first incident happened at the intersection of 11th Street and Montgomery Avenue, where a student was assaulted. They say the teens then attempted to rob the student.

Later that day, police say the trio targeted another student at Cecil B. Moore Station, attacking him and stealing his backpack.

The suspects, who range in age from 13 to 15, were apprehended on Montgomery Avenue.

These assaults came just one day before nearly 5,000 new students moved onto campus .

Temple Police Chief Jennifer Griffin told our partners at NBC10 that students at the university have been advised of the various safety precautions around campus. They've installed new security cameras and hired seven officers over the summer, but Griffin says they could use more staffing.

Temple's upcoming president, John Fry, has said he will prioritize these concerns once he gets into office.

Officers also responded to a shooting on North 18th Street that same night. No one was injured.
