PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Is there a link between a teen moving with their family and developing depression as an adult?

In the past, major medical studies focused on disease and lifestyle issues like diet and exercise. These studies are incredibly valuable and they continue to this day.

However, in recent years, a large number of studies have looked at social determinants of health — income, neighborhood, access to care and lifestyle.

A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association Psychiatry Edition found a link between a child’s family moving — between ages 10 and 15 — and developing depression as an adult.

Researchers have not found a direct cause and effect, but they plan to look more closely at the connection and examine other areas, such as family dynamics, financial stress and sudden changes in relationships that can occur after a move.
