PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Has your physician ever asked if you feel safe at home? If so, your physician is likely reaching out to open the door to a very important conversation about your personal safety.

The question is open-ended and designed to encourage conversations about domestic violence as well as other areas that can impact personal safety.

Most articles in major medical journals focus on research and innovative treatments, but an article in the New England Journal of Medicine focuses on why it is so important to communicate safely and privately with your doctor.

If your doctor doesn’t ask this question, you should never be afraid to reach out and bring up any concerns.
