PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Brandywine Valley SPCA is expanding into New Jersey, making it the only animal welfare organization to operate in three states.

The BVSPCA announced an affiliation agreement with the Animal Adoption Center (AAC) , a small shelter in Lindenwold, Camden County.

“Now, the Brandywine Valley SPCA will be operating in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey,” said spokesperson Sara Smith.

AAC has helped get 16,000 pets adopted over the last 35 years. With multiple campuses in Pennsylvania and Delaware, BVSPCA placed more than 16,000 pets into loving homes last year alone.

“We just know we can help this struggling small shelter do better,” Smith added.

She said BVSPCA will help provide care for the animals, increase adoptions, and bring programs to the community.

“Resources that we put out in the community like vaccine clinics and spay and neuter for community cats, and even for owned animals,” she explained. “That helps cut down on unwanted litters so that hopefully less animals will be coming into the shelters.”

In January, BVSPCA extended lifesaving initiatives into central Pennsylvania through its affiliation with the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area.
