Police: Dozens of shots fired in Hunting Park, leaving 1 man dead

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An explosion of gunfire left a man dead in Hunting Park Tuesday night.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. near Seventh and West Lycoming streets.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said the shooter or shooters fired dozens of shots.

“We have long gun rounds as well as handgun rounds,” he said. “Over 40 shots were fired from at least two different caliber weapons.”

Some of those spent rounds were found just inches from the victim’s body. He was identified only as a man in his 20s.

Investigators are looking through multiple surveillance cameras in the area to try to identify a suspect.
