PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man who stole a gun from the scene of a deadly police-involved shooting at a Fairhill corner store earlier this year pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors on Monday.

Jose Quinones-Mendez admitted to taking a firearm after a deadly interaction between two Philadelphia police officers and 28-year-old Alexander Spencer .

The officers entered the corner store at Cambria and Mascher streets on Jan. 26 and confronted Spencer inside. Eventually, they all got into a tussle, and investigators said Spencer fired his gun, which struck one of the officers. The other cop returned fire, fatally wounding Spencer.

At some point during the incident, Spencer’s gun hit the floor, and someone took it and ran . In Monday’s plea deal, Quinones-Mendez admitted to taking the gun that was left at the scene.

He pleaded guilty to gun charges and an unrelated drug case. As part of the deal, he was sentenced to 11 ½ to 23 months behind bars.

He will receive credit for the time he has already served. He’s been in jail since the incident.
