PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Coatesville Area School District bus transporting students on its afternoon dismissal route Thursday was struck by two bullets, according to the superintendent. No one was injured.

The school district is working closely with Coatesville Area School District Police, the Coatesville City Police, and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office to identify those responsible, according to Superintendent Catherine Van Vooren.

According to a letter to families from the superintendent, both the Coatesville Area Intermediate High School and Coatesville Area Senior High School will operate on a flexible instruction day on Friday, Oct. 11, out of an abundance of caution.

Van Vooren says district officials believe there is no danger to K-7 students, and all elementary and middle schools will operate in-person as scheduled, though there will be an increased police presence across the entire district.

“We have spoken with the students who were on the bus to check on their well-being and will continue to stay in close communication with their families, offering full support services as needed,” Van Vooren wrote. “We would also like to express our gratitude to the Krapf school bus driver and the first responders for their quick and professional response to this situation.”

Officials ask that anyone who lives nearby, who may have captured any part of the incident on camera, contact police to aid in the investigation.
