PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It’s an unexpected day off for students in one Burlington County School District.

According to our partners at NBC10, there are no classes in Bordentown Regional School District Monday after the teachers union said its members would not be in the classroom. They've been in a contract dispute with the district.

Members of the Bordentown Education Association say they've asked the board for fair “pay that's within the means of our community, and that meets the average salaries of teachers (across the county).”

The superintendent says while the district values and supports teachers, it “does not condone activity that may disrupt operations or inconvenience parents and children.”

Students and teachers will have to make up for the time lost in May.

Look, teachers in New Jersey regardless of what demographic one teaches in should make an absorbent amount of money. If dock workers on an average pull down $70,000 grand starting salary with bare minimum education (HSD) a certified teacher should have a starting salary of at least $135,500. Over 10 years teachers should be in the high $200,000.00. All benefits, guess people who balk at (teachers) have NO clue what it’s like teaching 9-10-11-12 grad. 45-50 students X 7 classes a day everyday for (5) days, grade papers, write lesson plans, deal with student’s struggles etc. just keeping shit real! Imagine doing that for20-30 years, talk about burning out! I give all respect to New Jersey teachers! I’m not one, but I know very well how they struggle and their pay sucks! NJEA what a joke!
