BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A man accused of killing a married couple in Virginia then drove to New Jersey, searching for his family. Police say he was taken into custody in Burlington County.

Amandeep Singh, 49, was arrested in Medford. Police tracked him from Evesham, which is where they say officers responded to the home of some of his relatives early Sunday morning.

It was reported he had a gun and had threatened them, as he was looking for his estranged wife.

Investigators say Singh was not there when they arrived and he was later found and arrested in Medford with a handgun and a rifle on him.

As the investigation in South Jersey was playing out, local investigators contacted police in Prince William County, Virginia, and asked them to do a welfare check at Singh’s home.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, they found the bodies of two people — dead from apparent gunshot wounds. They say the two were married and renting the basement in Singh’s home.

They believe he drove to New Jersey after they were shot.

Further investigation revealed that, on Saturday, Singh had held two of his family members against their will in a bedroom, and he had fired a gun toward their heads, which did not hit them. They were able to leave the home, but police say the incident was not immediately reported to authorities.

Officials found Singh’s wife safe in Virginia.

He’s facing a list of charges.
