Burlco high school gets $1M for infrastructure upgrades, including roof repair, HVAC and fire detection

MEDFORD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The Lenape Regional High School District, in Burlington County, is getting $1 million to make important infrastructure upgrades, including replacing a portion of the roof at Lenape High School.

The high school has undergone some changes since it opened in 1958. Some of the roof at the school is original to the building, and it’s time to make some upgrades.

“And obviously the wear and tear of six-plus decades, really, necessitated the replacement,” said State Sen. Troy Singleton, who helped secure the money through the American Rescue Plan.

This most recent investment will help keep it open for years to come. Singleton says the school is also getting a much needed new HVAC system as well as a state-of-the-art fire detection system.

“The HVAC, to replace that system, is really important, because it increases costs to continue repairs and maintenance of the older system, so we’re really happy for that, as well as the fire detection system.”

Singleton says the new fire detection system will allow emergency personnel and first responders to pinpoint the location of fires, which is critically important when covering a more than 300,000 square foot facility.

Work will take place over the summer to avoid disrupting the school year.
