NJ authorities identify the man who fired at police in Burlington County, and the officer who killed him

Authorities have identified the man killed by police in a shootout in Browns Mills on Saturday. They have also identified the officer involved. The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, within the Office of the Attorney General, said Marvin Taylor, 57, was killed by Pemberton Township Police officer Kyle McQueen.

Police say when responding officers arrived at the house on Woodland Avenue, there was an armed man in the back yard. Officers took cover in a wooded area behind the property and commanded Taylor to drop the weapon. Investigators say he shot at them, and McQueen returned fire. Police rendered aid to Taylor, who was airlifted to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.

SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — The Office of the Attorney General is investigating the death of a man after a shootout with police broke out at the scene of a reported house fire in Burlington County on Saturday.

When first responders arrived on the scene of the house fire, on Woodland Avenue in Pemberton Township, around 4 p.m. Saturday, someone on the property began shooting at them, according to authorities.

A man, whom police have not identified publicly, was killed in the shootout. Officials did not immediately disclose the cause of the man's death, but investigators said a gun was found next to his body.

The attorney general's Office of Public Accountability and Integrity is investigating this incident , as it does with all deaths that occur when police officers are involved. The office is working to determine the if police responded appropriately.
