A FL Winn Dixie Store Will Begin The Conversion to An Aldi Following Aldi's Purchase of Winn Dixie

In mid-August of 2023, Aldi acquired approximately 400 Winn Dixie stores from Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers. At that time, Aldi representatives indicated that some Winn Dixie stores would continue to operate under the Winn Dixie brand.

A short time later, however, Aldi's CEO, Jason Hart, indicated that Aldi would convert a "significant" amount of Winn Dixie stores to the Aldi blueprint.

Additionally, in September of 2023, it was announced that some of Florida's Winn Dixies would be closing their pharmacies and transferring customer prescriptions to CVS and Walgreens.

Now it appears that some Floridians are going to see one of those conversions from Winn Dixie to Aldi. Specifically, according to Creative Loafing, a Tampa Winn Dixie on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is being converted to an Aldi and is expected to reopen as an Aldi in January 2025.

This leaves the area without a pharmacy as a close by Walgreens closed in 2022.

Creative Loafing called Winn Dixie stores in the area to see if any were slated to transition to Aldi stores in the near future.

Most told the publication that they did not know about their future status, although stores in Lutz, Temple Terrace, and on Tampa's Florida Avenue speculated that they would remain Winn Dixie stores due to their proximity to an already-existing Aldi.

An Aldi spokesperson told Creative Loafing that although a "significant" amount of Winn Dixie stores will convert to Aldi stores over the course of "several years," a "meaningful amount" of Winn Dixie stores will continue to operate as Winn Dixie stores.
