Former Clancey's, Whiskey Creek Station, Closes After State Inspection - Rodents, 2nd Closure

    2024-05-16

Florida has plenty of restaurants that some would consider "old fashioned" like The Yearling and the Seminole Inn. Unfortunately, one restaurant in this genre - Whiskey Creek Station - has been shut down after a state inspection.

About Whiskey Creek Station: According to its website, this restaurant was previously Clancey's Restaurant or Clanceys Irish Pub which served its community for 40 years. The new restaurant features some old Clancey's favorites as well as steak, seafood, and Caribbean favorites.

The eatery's description on its Google reviews describes it as "old fashioned" and as serving traditional American and Irish comfort food.

Patrons have reviewed the eatery on Google reviews over 500 times. Many noted the reasonable prices and festive vibe.

    A reviewer named Adam wrote:

"This is your quintessential traditional Florida open-air diner. The food is amazing. Not one bad plate. I have had several of their specials and appetizers. The chef knows his kitchen. Amazing flavors and beautiful placement and plating..."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from a database maintained by the Tallahassee Democrat, an inspection occurred on April 30, 2024. At that time, 6 violations were noted.

Basic violations came for ceiling tiles with water damage and cutting boards that could no longer be cleaned.

Intermediate violations came from a can opener with debris on it and a handwash sink next to the soda station that had no running water.

High-priority violations came from the observation of dozens of rodent droppings and for operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license.

As a result of some of the above violations, the restaurant was temporarily closed.

A follow-up occurred later on April 30, 2024. Although 2 violations remained, the restaurant "met inspection standards" and could reopen.

Previous Closure: The above is not the first closure for this Fort Myers restaurant on McGregor Boulevard. It had a previous closure in September of 2022 as well as a $400 fine at that time.

Please note that an inspection is one glimpse in time and not necessarily indicative of how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
