Popular FL Greek Waterfront Eatery Dimitri's On The Water Shut Down After Inspection - 20 Violations

    2024-05-26

Florida has plenty of well-known waterfront restaurants, including Rusty Bellies and Eddie V's, to name a few examples. Unfortunately, one Florida restaurant in this genre - Dimitri's On The Water - was shut down after a state inspection.

About Dimitri's On The Water: This waterfront eatery -which specializes in Greek food - vows to offer something for everyone, including fresh local seafood, steaks cut to order, and comfort foods.

The menu is inspired by the chef's Yia Yia (grandmother,) and patrons can look out and see the Anclote River as they dine.

Tarpon Springs patrons and visitors have reviewed Dimitri's over 2,700 times. Many raved about the views and service. Some said the experience was affordable. A reviewer named Krystyn wrote:

"This is an amazing Greek restaurant that deserves praise! This restaurant has an amazing staff, food, and dessert. There are no complaints here. This place is literally on the water and very affordable!... I will be back again!"

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on May 20, 2024. At that time, 20 violations were found.

Basic violations came from floor areas being covered with standing water, a frozen bag of scallops not being thawed properly, and cutting boards that were no longer cleanable.

High-priority violations came for dented, rusted cans that resulted in a stop-sale order, an employee failing to wear gloves when working with food, raw chicken being stored over bell pepper, and rodent activity as evidenced by rodent droppings.

As a result of some of the above, the eatery was temporarily closed. A follow-up inspection occurred on May 21, 2024. At that time, no high-priority violations remained and the restaurant could reopen.

Pleasae note that a restaurant inspection is one glimpse in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
