Billionaire Ken Griffin Moved His Hedge Fund Co. From IL To FL. It's Adding More Jobs & Office Space

    2024-06-14

Over the past several months, I've written about some billionaires that have moved their companies to Florida such as John Paulson and Stephen Ross. But I've undoubtedly written about Ken Griffin the most because he has made huge investments in Florida since moving his company to the Sunshine from Chicago. And now, his company is growing - so much so that it is adding both jobs and office space.

The Move From Chicago, Illinois To South Florida: Griffin, who is worth around $36.5 billion according to Bloomberg's billionaire index, is the CEO of the large hedge fund Citadel, which manages nearly $60 billion in investment capital.

In May of 2024, Citadel's Flagship Fund, Wellington, disclosed that it had $14.51 billion in assets.

Of the move from Chicago to Florida, Griffin has praised Florida's "traditional values" and South Florida's energy.

Citadel Now Needs More Room In Florida And Is Bringing More Jobs: In mid-June of 2024, Citadel announced that it will now take 8 floors at 830 Brickell Plaza in Miami's Brickell Financial District - around 37,000 more square feet than was originally anticipated.

The company reportedly expects to have 450 employees in the building by the end of the summer because of "another wave of relocations taking place ahead of the school year and more hiring."

Since coming to Florida, Griffin has invested heavily in the state and its institutions - to the tune of around $300 million. Examples of some of the institutions and their donations are $20 million to Miami Dade College, $9 million to Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and $50 million to the Baptist Health Foundation, as just a few examples.
