FL Shopping Center With Kohl's, Joann, & Marshalls, The Fountains, Sells For A Loss At $70 Million

    2024-06-27

If you are a Floridian, you know it's not unusual to go shopping in what we commonly call "strip malls" or large shopping centers where a substantial number of retailers are clustered. While not large malls, these offerings usually provide Floridians with many choices for groceries, personal care, clothing, and restaurants. One of these large shopping centers - Plantation's The Fountains - just sold for a loss - and the shopping center includes some major retailers and restaurants.

About The Fountains: This shopping center on Plantation's University Drive is extremely large, including multiple retailers, restaurants, and service providers.

For example, restaurants included are Chilis, Five Guys, Duffy's, Firehouse Subs, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Smokey Bones, and Too Jay's.

The Fountains' retailers include Dollar Tree, Joann Fabric and Crafts, Kohl's, Marshall's, and Fountain Jewelers.

The Fountains also offers service providers such as Pediatric Urgent Care, Pet Bar, and H & R Block.

Patrons and visitors seem very happy with this shopping center, giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Many praise the location and offerings.

A reviewer named Luis writes, in part:

"The Fountains...is an urban oasis in the heart of the city. Located close to the heart of Plantation, it offers a unique shopping experience with its mix of retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues. From Cuban coffee to Marshals and Dollar Tree, shoppers can find everything they need at this mall. Plus, they can enjoy delicious meals at Five Guys or Subway while shopping..."

The Recent Sale: In late June 2024, the Fountains sold for $70 million. This is over $2 million less than the $72.55 million the property sold for in 2004. Additionally, the Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office has assessed the property at $86 million.
